Having studied and worked in architecture, it is a special focus in my filmmaking. This includes working with architects to research and develop stories, shooting architectural video including buildings, interviews and other content, and producing videos from conception to completion.

I grew up with architect parents, which meant conversations about design over dinner, site visits disguised as vacations, and the mortification of my Dad slowing to 5mph to look up at some building, unfazed by the honking around us. It all made its mark on me— I received my M. Arch from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation in 2011.

Since then I’ve worked in architecture in NYC—in-house at the studios of Kohn Pedersen Fox (as Global Video Producer), Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and GLUCK+. I’ve worked on a project basis with other collaborators, including Rural Studio and RISD.

KOHN PEDERSEN FOX

As in-house producer for all video projects globally, I collaborate with the marketing department and design teams, research and develop stories, coordinate shoots and often shoot myself, and edit and post-produce videos to completion. Ranging in lengths and distribution outlets, the projects cover the projects, processes and people of KPF.

DILLER SCOFIDIO + RENFRO

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN Short video to show the process and design of a design competition submission.

↑↓ LATE NIGHTS ON AIR The above video documents excerpts of Charles Renfro design setting the stage for Choreography by Jonah Bokaer, set to an original score by Nico Muhly, performed live on stage in a by violinists Angela & Jennifer Chun. I worked with Renfro on the 5 films integrated into the stage design.

GLUCK+

The goal of 20+ bite-sized videos which live on gluckplus.com was to communicate the big picture of how buildings are built, and how GLUCK+ is different, integrating the process of design and construction. Team: Randy Rubin, Bethia Liu, Peter Gluck

UP IN THE TREES A vacation house is turned on its side and its parts stacked up to access the view. The main living space is cantilevered above in the forest canopy—up in the trees.

THINKER MAKER A graphically split screen communicates how design and construction were historically learned and practiced in parallel. Once ‘professionalized,’ they split. The GLUCK+ approach brings them back together.

PICTURE A BUILDING A visual demonstration of the function of architectural drawings, including their limitations their limitations. This video also exhibits the additional kind of drawings GLUCK+ provides to ensure clear communication during construction.

BUILDING MATTERS The architects at GLUCK+ are also construction managers. A project is not filtered through different departments, but seen through entirely by the same people. We believe this makes for better buildings.

THE STACK By making construction more cost-efficient, offsite construction is a viable option for urban infill sites that are otherwise deemed too risky to develop or difficult to build on, presenting an approach with great potential or moderate-income and affordable housing.

ARCHITECTS DOING MORE When architects take on the construction process, buildings benefit. The front-end development of a project is a natural extension of that idea, as discussed by the firm principals.

TRADE SETS Designing a building is like composing a symphony, but there is only one performance. To ensure quality and control costs, each player must understand their part exactly.

↑ ↓ I'M NOT A PROFIT Video gives a ‘voice’ to potential non-profit clients through graphic titlecards. Firm principals referencing existing buildings as proof, including St. Francis of Assisi Early Learning Center and East Harlem School.

WHAT IS DESIGN? What is "the modern impulse" that drives our architectural practice at GLUCK+?
